You just signed up for a top-up insurance to complete your employer’s health plan? You would like to know how to make a claim using this insurance? You are wondering if there are any differences for inpatient or outpatient claims?
After contracting a top-up health insurance, you will need to communicate with both insurance companies, depending on the claims to be made.
Inpatient – Hospitalization
In case of hospitalization, we advise you to contact both insurance companies and to inform them that you are also insured with another company.
Having all these details, both companies will be able to work together to provide you the best coverage depending on your health plans.
For example, if you have a limit per disability with your employer’s health insurance, and an annual limit with your top-up, the difference between your limit by disability and the price of the operation would be paid by the insurance company contracted for the top-up:
In case of an admission at the hospital, you might need a letter of guarantee to prevent you from advancing the expenses. Both of your insurances can also work together to provide you with the correct amount of guarantee.
Outpatient – GP, Specialist, Alternative Medicine
If your employer’s health insurance does not cover you for outpatient expenses, you will have to claim directly to your top-up insurance.
If your employer’s health insurance covers you until a certain limit, we advise you to claim your expenses to this insurance company until the limit is reached. Once reached, you can claim your expenses to your top-up insurance company.
