The Government Technology Agency (GovTech) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MOH), has implemented the TraceTogether application to combat the spread of the coronavirus in Singapore. Launched on 20 March 2020 on all mobile platforms and completely free, you can download it from your Apple Store or Google play store.
TraceTogether what is it?
TraceTogether is an application to trace the itinerary of citizens infected by the Coronavirus in order to alert people who have crossed their path. The application works through your bluetooth system and tracks all users who have been in the vicinity of a contaminated person. The alert criteria are :
– A distance of 2 meters maximum
– A proximity of 30 min minimum.
The developers stated that this was “especially useful in cases where infected people do not know all the people they have been in close proximity to for a long period of time”. This application gives every citizen, expatriate or student the opportunity to fight the spread of Covid-2019 in Singapore.
Greatly improved reactivity
Tracking the Coronavirus today is mainly based on the information provided by those infected. Thanks to testimonies retracing their journey in an approximate way, the competent authorities alert the population of the places to avoid and act on the containment of the identified persons. However, the lack of veracity and precision of the testimonies complicates the work.
Thanks to the new application and its connection with the other users of the application. If a person turns out to be infected, his entire journey and encounters will be recorded. The information can be checked more quickly, guaranteeing an effective intervention.
An application that benefits Singapore and its citizens
The owners of TraceTogether will be informed automatically in case of proximity to an infected person. They will then be able to take precautionary measures and check their health more regularly.
If the slightest flu-like symptoms occur, it is a good sign that a diagnosis should be made by a competent doctor. Such early detection could greatly reduce the spread of the virus in Singapore and thus protect the community.
Consensual and confidential individual functioning
In order to download the application, a personal phone number and consent will be required. The Ministry of Health as well as the Government Technology Agency will not have any visibility on your personal data, unless you send it to them.
A request may be made by the Ministry of Health to facilitate the research process. The data will then be analysed and processed in order to keep you informed of a potential encounter with an infected person.
